With Covid-19 and wild weather keeping many of us bundled up indoors, we’ve been busy catching up on some of our favorite Christmas movies!
Pre-kids, this time of year usually meant cosy evenings binging Love Actually, Die Hard and National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, but nowadays we find ourselves needing to opt for more family-friendly options.
If you’re stuck for kid-friendly movie ideas, scroll down to see our ten best Christmas movies to watch as a family!
#1 The Christmas Chronicles Series
Kids will love this movie because of the adorable elves and exciting magical adventures while parents will love watching their fav celeb couple (we’re obviously talking about Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russsell) portray Mr and Mrs Claus! In all seriousness, this movie does have some heavy themes (spoiler: a loving father of two passes away in the beginning), but it ultimately leaves you feeling uplifted and reminded of just how precious our loved ones are. Oh and to be a good person!
#2 Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey
We’re not crying, you’re crying! Okay fine, we’re crying, fist pumping, and laughing all at once! Made with incredible special effects, stunning costumes and enormous attention to detail, Jingle Jangle combines music, singing, heroes and villains, the importance of family, Christmas and magic to create an instant heartwarming classic.
Raise your hand if you’re raising little feminists! Noelle is the movie for you! As the daughter of Santa and sister of the man who’s next time in line, Noelle has to prove that she’s actually the right WOMAN for the job!
#4 The Grinch
A new take on a timeless classic, The Grinch still packs the important messages, but offers viewers stunning visuals, awesome music and a clever script that will make even the most straight-faced parent LOL.
Klaus is an endearing story of two unlikely friends who are working together for a great cause! We love how vulnerable the characters can be, while also inspiring us to search deep for strength to keep going. Entertaining for kids and grown-ups of all ages, the animation is absolutely incredible – truly some of the best visual storytelling we’ve seen in ages!
Buddy the Elf, what’s your favorite color? Arguably the most quoted movie of the last two decades, Elf is a movie that you can’t stop loving. It’s NYC rom com meets heartwarming Christmas tale and we are HERE FOR IT.
#7 Miracle on 43rd Street
Mara Wilson (the adorable little girl from Matilda) is literally everything in the 1994 version of Miracle on 34th Street! While it does stray a little from the original’s storyline, it still offers heartwarming chemistry between the characters, empowering messages and just the right amount of magical thinking!
#8 The Santa Clause (1, 2 & 3!)
The only thing better than Tim Allen as the Shaggy Dog is Tim Allen as Santa! Fun for both parents and kids due to the hilarious one liners and depiction of the North Pole, each film gets better and better!
#9 Home Alone (1, 2 & 3!)
Since it’s no secret that kids love a bit of slapstick comedy, Home Alone has continued to stand the test of time with Harry and Marv’s near constant mishaps and Kevin McCallister’s genius problem-solving skills! To be watched with a freshly delivered cheese pizza….’just for me.’
Any movie involving an animal usually gives us all the feels, but Prancer is extra worthy of your time! It depicts the beautiful friendship between a reindeer and little girl as well as just how hard she has to fight to stand up for what (and whom) she believes in. An oldie but goodie!
