Just a month before she became pregnant with her first child 15 years ago, Sharon Oved’s mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. She was just 46 years old. This sudden health scare pushed home to Sharon the importance of her baby’s - and her own - health, when she fell pregnant soon after. By the time Arielle, her daughter, was born, Sharon had read extensively about the benefits of breastfeeding, and its impact not only on the baby, but for the mother, too. Sharon set a goal to nurse until Arielle turned one - but this turned out to be trickier than she imagined. Her most challenging moments were in public, where she felt uncomfortable about nursing. Determined to keep breastfeeding, Sharon devised a cover-up that would allow her to keep nursing but also maintain her modesty. With the encouragement of friends (and even many strangers), Sharon knew that her product could help other moms. Since then, the line has expanded to include a full line of GOTS-certified organic cotton clothing. And in a nod to Sharon’s mother, every year, L’ovedbaby donates a percentage of their profits to various breast cancer charities.
