Inspired by a love of European fashion, Jean Polsky and husband Chike Chukwulozie launched Estella, an artisan-inspired children’s clothing & accessories line, in 2002. Starting with just one boutique in Manhattan, the brand was a departure from all other children’s fashion at the time, which was synonymous with big box retail, hefty price tags, and conservative frocks. For Jean and Chike, the idea was to create clothing and accessories with personality, created by mothers, not corporations. These days, the brand works mainly with organic cotton, bamboo and other sustainable materials, and has proud partnerships with local artisans in Peru and Bolivia, where workers are treated fairly and compensated with fair wages.
