Activity: Where’s the Puff?

Months: 9 – 12

Toys and Materials: Shape Sorter

Milestones: Finds hidden objects, Uses thumb and index finger to pick up food 

When your baby is in their highchair, place a puff or favorite snack under one of the shapes from the Shape Sorter. Watch your baby find the puff. Now increase the challenge! Put three shapes from the shape sorter on the table and hide a puff under one of them. Move them around and see if your baby remembers where the puff is!

 

 

Activity: Can You Show Me….?

Months: 10 – 12

Toys and Materials: Bath Book

Milestones: Understands simple verbal commands, Follows pictures in a book 

After you’ve read the Bath Book together several times, hand the book to your baby. Ask them, “Can you show me the jellyfish?” Continue by asking them to find different animals, helping them when needed.

 

 

Activity: Come and Get It!

Months: 10 – 12

Toys and Materials: Baby Beads

Milestones: Cruises on furniture, Bears weight on feet 

Place the Baby Beads at one end of a low shelf or coffee table. Set your baby down at the other end. Encourage them to go get the Baby Beads. You can sit by the beads if they need extra encouragement! Once they reach the beads, encourage them to stand there playing with it, which is excellent practice for learning to balance.

 

 

Activity: Bye-Bye Little Friend!

Months: 9 – 12

Toys and Materials: Soft Teether Toy, little box or basket

Milestones: Experiences separation anxiety, Waves hello and goodbye 

Give the Soft Teether a hug and say, “Bye-bye little toy, I’ll be back soon!” Put it in a box or basket and wave goodbye. Then walk away. Return and dramatically greet the little toy again, waving hello and saying, “I always come back!” Keep playing as long as your tot is engaged.

As babies get older, many begin to resist diaper changes – they don’t want to lay still on their back, they’re on the move! As your baby learns to stand, try diaper changes standing up near a low shelf or something they can hold onto for balance.
