Activity: Shape Matching
Months: 21 – 24
Toys and Materials: Shape Matching Puzzle, Paper, Crayons
Milestones: Repeats words they hear
Trace each Shape Matching Puzzle piece on a sheet of paper in the color corresponding to the shape. Show your tot how to match the puzzle pieces to the paper, placing the triangle on the triangle, etc. Name the shapes as you do this. Invite your child to have a turn!
Activity: Sink the Boat!
Months: 18 – 24
Toys and Materials: Bath Boat, Stacking Cups
Milestones: Follows instructions, Counts, Plays make believe
Say, ‘I wonder how much water it would take to sink this boat?’ Using a Stacking Cup, slowly and dramatically pour water onto the Bath Boat. Invite your child to help and see if you can sink the boat! Count how many cups of water it takes to sink it.
Activity: Color Exploration
Months: 22 – 24
Toys and Materials: Peacock Colors, Food coloring, water
Milestones: Follows instructions with two steps, Repeats words they hear
Using the Peacock Colors toy, explore how different colors combine to make new colors with your child, naming the colors for them. Then give them three cups of water, one blue, one red and one yellow. Show them how to pour the colored water into a large bowl, bathtub or water table to explore how the colors mix.
Activity: Sorting
Months: 22 – 24
Toys and Materials: Stacking Cups
Milestones: Counts two or three objects
Gather small objects such as pompoms, seashells, acorns, leaves or whatever your child is interested in. Demonstrate sorting objects into different Stacking Cups. For example, place green leaves in one cup, brown leaves in a second cup and red leaves in a third cup. Count how many objects are in each cup.

Make sure every toy has a specific place it belongs on a shelf. This will make it easier for your child to help put away their toys if everything has a place!
