What to pack for every cold-weather vacation
Are you traveling with your baby this winter? To help keep everyone warm, toasty and sniffle-free, we’re sharing our travel tips, favorite cold-weather picks and fail-proof packing list!
Traveling with a baby at any time of year can be daunting…. but let’s be honest: it’s especially daunting when it’s cold out and you know you’ll need to schlep around extra layers and battle the inevitable sniffles that ensue when the mercury drops!
To help keep you feeling excited and confident for your cold-weather vacation, we’ve listed our winter baby travel tips, packing list and favorite cold-weather picks below.
Winter Baby Travel Tips
#1 Before you go, ensure that all of your baby’s vaccinations are up to date. It’s also a good idea to take a record of them in case you need to see a doctor while you’re away.
#2 Remember that babies need one extra layer of clothing than you do so be sure to have ample onesies, leggings, socks, mittens and hats. Depending on their age, they may also need their own mask.
#3 ALWAYS opt for materials like 100% organic cotton or sustainable bamboo rayon. Both of these fibers are hypoallergenic, which means they won’t irritate dry winter skin. They’re also great for regulating body temperature. When you dress your baby in synthetic clothing, they’re more likely to overheat, which will make it difficult for them to sleep properly.
#4 Be prepared for sniffles. Even in the best weather, babies seem to get sick! We never go anywhere without all the gear to combat a cold. Our favs are: a humidifier, thermometer, chest rub, and an easy medicine dispenser.
#5 Make sure you have warm accessories for your gear. While your baby may feel like a personal heater when riding in your carrier, it’s a good idea to have an extra swaddle or two on hand to make sure their toes and fingers stay nice and warm!
#6 Invest in hydrating and toxin-free personal care! Your baby’s lips and cheeks may get chapped while feeding in cold weather, so try to make sure you have things like lotion, balm and a nice chest rub on hand to soothe them.
#7 Winter skin is no joke and a dry and cracked bottom can make your vacation a nightmare. Babies have very sensitive skin, which is why you should be using hypoallergenic wet wipes and diapers that are free from irritants like chlorine, fragrance, phthalates and alcohol.
#8 Pack snacks! If your baby is still exclusively breastfed, be sure to drink more water than you usually do so that you stay hydrated. If you baby is on solids, you’ll want to check out our new on-the-go feeding set that has all of the products you need while traveling as well as a booklet full of nutritional information and recipes!
