How to ring in the New Year with children

Your New Year’s Eve festivities may look a little different once you’ve had little ones, but this doesn’t mean you can’t have fun!

If you’re staying in for the New Year, take some time to plan a family friendly festive evening —whether it’s just your family or a small gathering. So, what are some fun activities to make the New Year special for you and your tot? Here are a few fun ideas to get your party started.

Dress up

Whether you’re having people over or not, it is fun to dress up to make the celebration more festive.  Oscar de la Renta has some stunning pieces, exclusive to The Tot, that are perfect for making your little one(s) feel as festive as the night they are celebrating.

Have a dance party or have mini concert

Let loose and have a dance party! Sing and get silly with your toddler to some of your or their favorite songs.  You can also make your own music for your dance party or let your little one perform for you or guests.  The Hape Baby Grand Piano is perfect for your little one’s first concert.

Build together

Have fun with Twoodie Stacking Gems while learning too! They are inspired by the Reggio Emilia and Montessori approaches to learning and are the essence of “free play”. They are proven to develop coordination and stimulate imagination and creativity. See who can stack the highest, or what you can create together.

Picture time

Have a fun photo session! Paint craft paper using eco-friendly paint for a backdrop, make props, or go to a local party store to buy simple props. Have fun taking different family photos and let your little tot be the photographer with this Little Miss Workbench Say Cheese Camera.

Arts and Crafts

Have some fun creating something together!  Whether it’s the backdrop for your photo session or a new piece of art for their room, make it together! You can choose to fingerpaint, paint or draw! The Tot is a great resource for safe paints or art supplies for your little one, some of my favorites are WeeCan Too Veggie Finger Paint.

Build a Fort

Kids love forts, and face it—so do grown-ups! Make a large fort with lots of cozy pillows and blankets.  Even add some lights for special effect. Play games, read books, or tell stories in the fort.

Festive snacks

Create fun snacks using the Petits Et Maman plates in different shapes! They have animals, vehicles, and flowers all making meal-time or snack time more fun with an exciting presentation!

However you and your tot(s) decide to ring in the New Year, remember to have as much fun with them as possible—they are only little once!

Happy New Year!
