Being Mama: Ivanka Trump
Ivanka Trump is the founder of the Ivanka Trump Collection, Executive Vice President of Development and Acquisitions of The Trump Organization, and proud mom of Arabella and Joseph (with number three on the way).
Ivanka spoke to Team Tot about pregnancy, motherhood and work.
It’s hard to imagine anyone who epitomizes the ‘having it all’ ethos better than Ivanka Trump. The businesswoman, fashion icon, TV star and philanthropist is also a proud mom of Arabella and Joseph (with number three on the way).
She has carved out a very comfortable groove in life, one which sees her meld the joys of motherhood with the demands of a career in a pretty awe-inspiring way.
“Becoming a mother changed my life immensely,” she tells The Tot. “It’s brought me more joy and love daily than I could have imagined. But it’s also reinforced my appreciation of efficiency! Nothing makes you more efficient than having a child at home, waiting for you.”
Ivanka knows what many working mothers do, that the simplest moments with your children such as cooking dinner together or Friday evenings or reading bedtime stories are the most precious. “Arabella often starts the day singing from her bed,” says Ivanka who lives and works at Trump Tower in New York.
This time around the soon-to-be mom of three is worried about dividing her attention between all of her children. “I have such special bonds with Arabella (4) and Joseph (2). Naturally, I worried about this when Joseph was born as well, and I know I’ll learn to navigate this again with the new baby,” says Ivanka.
But it didn’t all come so naturally. Prior to giving birth to her daughter Arabella Rose, Ivanka says she spent an embarrassing amount of time poring over literature about how to change a diaper or give a bath. “It was a complete waste of time,” she says. “Once you have your baby, you figure that stuff out in a matter of days!
There are things which are a lot easier the third time around, like preparation. Ivanka has some favorite items such as an Ergo carrier, Jumparoo activity center and City Mini stroller which are all eagerly ready and waiting for their next tiny tenant.
The 34-year-old is also a big fan of the Zara Kids line, “as it offers affordable options that are always on trend and appropriate” and of course, Ivanka Trump girls’ shoes which was created with her daughter in mind.
Her pregnancy style is also something the busy mom feels more comfortable with now. “I tend to pick pieces that are figure-skimming and flattering, but I don’t overthink it,” says Ivanka whose simple but sophisticated style is reflective of her lifestyle. She is often found whizzing from the Trump boardroom to the Celebrity Apprentice set, home to bath the kids and then out with husband and fellow real estate magnet Jared Kushner, whom she married in 2009.
“I’m currently loving a few staples from the Ivanka Trump collection; in particular, the Boni Pump, which has a minor heel, so it elevates you comfortably and the Sleeveless Cowl-Neck Draped Top, which conceals the belly and looks sophisticated and professional with a blazer over it,” she says.
She couples this with a consistent and fairly minimal beauty routine. Her essentials include a Tammy Fender moisturizer, Elta MD UV Clear sunscreen, Glossier lipbalm, Trish McEvoy High Volume Mascara and Estée Lauder Smoothing Créme Concealer.
It’s a beauty routine which has served her well, during her years modeling and now being a businesswoman, fashion designer and mom. As she has previously explained to Vogue, “Me and my peers, we’re working really hard at being moms and sisters and professionals. There was a previous generation of women who rose through the ranks in an environment when work and life were highly compartmentalized. And I think now, because of technology, we’re always on. Where there used to be work life and home life, now it’s one life. And I think a lot of companies don’t recognize that.”
So is there anything this mom who closes billion dollar property deals and attends star studded events on a normal day has learned from her kids? “I’ve learned from both my husband and my kids that life is a marathon, not a sprint,” says Ivanka. “It’s important to enjoy each moment, and take life day by day.”
